Cardiology

If your pediatrician has recommended that your child see a cardiologist, he or she may suspect your child’s heart is not functioning normally. Approximately 0.8% of children are born with congenital heart defect.

Critical and intensive care unit (PICU)

The pediatric critical care team at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center cares for children who are very ill or medically unstable. These situations may result from very serious disease, infection or injury sustained from trauma, such as a traumatic brain injury.

Emergency care

Our emergency room that handles emergencies—from minor sprains and strains to major trauma—in an environment designed to address the unique needs of infants, children and adolescents.

Endocrinology

If your child has diabetes, problems with growth, or early or late puberty, your pediatrician may recommend that he or she see a pediatric endocrinologist. Because children are still growing, their problems are often quite different from those commonly seen by endocrinologists who treat adults.

Epileptology

Pediatric epileptologists specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and management of epilepsy in children. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder affecting the electrical activities within the brain, and is diagnosed if the child has two or more unprovoked seizures.

Gastroenterology

Pediatric gastroenterologists treat children who have conditions that affect the organs in the digestive system, including the stomach, liver and bowel. They also help children with feeding and eating issues. Some examples include food allergies, celiac disease, Crohn's disease and colitis, to name a few.

Gynecology

Pediatric and adolescent gynecologists treat injuries, infections, unexplained bleeding and pubertal and reproductive health issues.

Hematology oncology

Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's has the full range of cancer diagnostic and treatment facilities, including pediatric intensive care and outstanding pediatric surgery providing lifesaving care for our fragile patients.

Imaging and radiology

A pediatric radiologist is a physician specialist who looks at X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, and other pictures of children’s bones and tissues to identify problems that may be causing a medical condition.

Infectious diseases

Pediatric infectious disease specialists treat children with compromised immune systems and uncommon or serious infections. These can be infections that are difficult to identify, are hard to treat or are complicating another condition like prematurity or cancer.

Mental health

Pediatric mental health is a specialty that treats children and adolescents with behavioral, emotional and psychiatric disorders. The pediatric mental health team includes child psychiatrists, psychologists and professional counselors.

Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)

The Level IV NICU at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's Medical Center in Temple cares for the most fragile and premature newborns as well as full-term newborns diagnosed with serious or life-threatening conditions.

Nephrology

Pediatric nephrologists are doctors who treat children with kidney disorders, complicated chemical imbalances, bone metabolism disorders and high blood pressure.

Neurology

A pediatric neurologist treats children with conditions that affect the nervous system, which includes the brain, nerves and spinal cord.

Neuropsychology

At Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's, a pediatric neuropsychologist evaluates cognitive (thinking) problems such as communication, memory and attention can affect children in school and in life.

Neurosurgery

When a pediatric neurologist exhausts treatment methods to successfully treat a child with a neurological disease, it may become necessary to consult a pediatric neurosurgeon to assess the child’s condition and create a surgical treatment plan.

Occupational therapy

Pediatric occupational therapy helps infants, children,and adolescents perform the activities of daily living that may need to be mastered for the first time or relearned after disease or injury.

Ophthalmology

The pediatric ophthalmology team at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's provides both medical and surgical care of a child’s eyes, depending on the young patient’s needs.

Orthopedics

Board-certified pediatric orthopedic surgeons provide specialty care for bone defects or genetic-related bone diseases.

Ear, nose and throat (ENT)

Also called ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialists, pediatric otolaryngologists treat disease and disorders that affect most of the senses, including your child’s ability to hear, smell, touch and taste.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation

Pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) specialists help develop, enhance and restore functional ability to children with physical impairments or disabilities.

Plastic surgery

Pediatric plastic surgery focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and long-term management of a spectrum of pediatric physical deformities, which may be present at birth, caused by trauma or result from an acquired disease.

Physical therapy

Licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants work in the pediatric and neonatal intensive care units and in the inpatient and outpatient clinics to restore mobility to an affected area of the body immediately after medical treatment or surgery.

Podiatry

Pediatric podiatry focuses on caring for a child’s growing feet. Specialists are trained to diagnose and treat conditions related to normal and abnormal development of the feet and ankles.

Pulmonology

Pediatric pulmonologists treat children with breathing problems, including those caused by asthma and cystic fibrosis, which can be brief or lifelong and affect children of any age.

Rheumatology

Pediatric rheumatologists treat children with joint and connective tissue disease and musculoskeletal conditions that affect the muscles and bones. Rheumatologists also treat autoimmune disorders.

Sleep disorders

Pediatric sleep medicine specialists treating sleep-related issues that affect children and adolescents. Baylor Scott & White Health has an accredited sleep laboratory at the with specialists trained to assess and treat your child’s sleep needs.

Speech Therapy

Speech-language pathologists collaborate with other pediatric specialties to treat communication disorders in children.

Surgery

Pediatric surgeons operate on all children, from newborns to adolescents. Their expertise is essential, because a child is not a small adult. As a child grows, his or her anatomy changes, and a pediatric surgeon’s skills are needed to perform operations on delicate tissues and structures in his or her body.

Urology

A pediatric urologist treats the urinary system, including the kidneys and bladder; in males, the genitals are included. Urinary conditions range from birth defects and difficulty urinating to infections and, less commonly, urinary stones that form in the bladder.

The Sunshine Café offers a variety of dining options, including a variety of made-from-scratch hot meals, a panini station, a salad bar, burgers, jumbo hot dogs, nachos, pre-made salads and sandwiches, homemade desserts and fresh-cut fruit. We also provide a cook-to-order sauté station with daily features, such as stir fry, pad Thai, pasta bars, baked potato bars, flatbread salads, ravioli bars, etc.

The Café is located on the ground floor of Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's – Temple.

Ronald McDonald family room

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a suite designed as a safe zone just for parents. Here, parents can unwind and recharge their batteries away from the traditional hospital environment while remaining close to their children. The room is conveniently located next to the front concierge desk on the first floor.

In addition, overnight lodging is available at Ronald McDonald House in Temple.

Visitor hours

All adult visitors to Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's Medical Center – Temple are required to have a photo ID.

Parents are welcome at all times, day or night. One parent may also spend the night in a child's room. Friends and relatives, including brothers and sisters, may visit between 6:30 AM - 8:30 PM, seven days a week.

If your child is admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, your nurse will review some additional guidelines for visitation to best support your child and your family during their stay in the unit.

Volunteer with us

Volunteers help us greet and direct visitors and patients to their appointments, deliver gifts to patients, staff the information desk and refreshment kiosks, assist family members in the ICU and day surgery waiting areas and staff the gift shop.
