If I had to offer any advice, it would be to always remember that, not every patient is heterosexual. Dr. Goad presumed that I was and framed his inquiries in that regard. It was a bit off putting to have to redirect an elder; but to ensure that my son was fully validated, I corrected Dr. Goad immediately - albeit respectfully, when he inquired if our relocation was due to my HUSBAND being in the military. Being on the receiving end of this question required me to, first give him the benefit of the doubt, but also it required me to swallow the offense of his assumption that, as a woman, my pathway to Texas would come through the military and not via our successful, professional career choices. Hopefully these thoughts will be valuable. | |
