We have an active hematopathology service with approximately 2,000 bone marrow examinations and 1,000 lymphoma evaluations per year.
The Hematopathology Fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
The emphasis of our one-year program is on diagnostic hematopathology and laboratory hematology.
We accept one fellow each year.

Curriculum
Our fellows rotate through the following:

Bone marrow and lymph node morphology – six months

Flow Cytometry – one month

Molecular pathology and cytogenetics – one month

Coagulation – one month

Pediatric hematopathology – one month

General laboratory hematology/lab management – one month

MedFusion-general signout rotation
Rotations take place at Baylor University Medical Center, MedFusion Labs and Cook Children's in Fort Worth.
Rotations average one month at a time. A one-month elective or special interest rotation is available. Bone marrow cases for fellows average five per day with one to two lymphoid tissues/cytology specimens per day.
There is no significant call for our fellows.
Fellows are encouraged to participate in an academic project resulting in a publication and/or presentation.
Conferences include a weekly hematology/oncology conference and a weekly hematopathology education conference.
How to apply
We use the standardized application for pathology fellowships from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Residents Forum.
Applications are typically accepted from September to December two years before the start of the fellowship.
Application requirements
In order to be considered for the program, applicants must submit the following materials:
- Completed CAP Application
- Curriculum Vitae
- Three letters of recommendation on institutional letterhead
- USMLE transcript
- Medical school transcript
Graduates of foreign medical schools must present evidence of having passed the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) examination and either the Federal Licensing Exam (FLEX), National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) or United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) and must be able to meet all requirements for licensing in the state of Texas.
