Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
What is transcranial magnetic stimulation?
TMS is a non-invasive (no anesthesia), FDA-cleared medical procedure for the treatment of depression in adults. TMS uses very brief, powerful magnetic pulses that stimulate brain cells in the outer layer of the brain communicating with an area at the base of the brain that is overactive when someone is depressed. The result of the administration of the magnetic pulses is that the overactive brain region is calmed.
